BIOGRAPHY

My name is David. I have been playing handpan for several years and I have been researching and following the history and development of handpans for close to a decade.

Playing the handpan is relaxing and soothing for me. Over several years, I have performed music in Yoga studios, in public and at events. During this time, I have come to understand that many people find the music to be relaxing and soothing to listen to.

A general history of the handpan goes something like this.

PANArt Hang Manufacturing Ltd. in Switzerland invented the 'Hang' drum in 2001 drawing inspiration from the Jamaican steel drum.

Other makers around the world began creating similar instruments with most of them using the term 'Handpan'.

The methods of producing these instruments have been numerous including hand-hammering, machine assisted production and forming the hemispheres using water pressure (aka. hydro-forming).
